Crews of Sukhoi Su-25CM Super-Frogfoot of the Kant airbase in Kyrgyzstan have practised training flights in the highlands
Crews of the Russian joint military base Kant in the Kyrgyz Republic conducted training flights using the advanced Sukhoi Su-25CM attack aircraft in the high-altitude environment.
In the course of the missions, the pilots performed takeoffs and landings in rarefied air, manoeuvring in pairs, as well as elements of forming a tactical formation, where everyone practised the role of a leader.
In addition, the attack aircraft performed dive exercises to carry out tactical air strikes on ground targets of a simulated enemy at the Edelweiss mountain range in the Issyk-Kul region and evading the air defences of a simulated enemy. The participants improved, among others, joint manoeuvres to evade attack by enemy aircraft accompanied by EW jamming.
According to the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Russian joint military base is the air component of the Collective Rapid Deployment Force (CRDF) of the Central Asian region of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The main task of the base is to control the airspace over Central Asia, provide air support to ground units of the CRDF of the CSTO Central Asian region and secure the air borders of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The base is armed with Sukhoi Su-25CM attack aircraft and advanced Mil Mi-8MTB5-1 helicopters.
The base also includes a short- and medium-range UAV unit equipped with advanced Orlan 10 multi-purpose UAVs, as well as military police and military vehicle inspectorate.
As part of political and military monitoring of the situation in the regions within their area of responsibility, representatives of the Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States visit the Organization’s infrastructure to review its status and identify the legislative action needed to improve its effectiveness.
