On November 18, the 79th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
The document reads that the CSTO has a significant practical impact on strengthening its peacekeeping potential, as well as on the system of regional security and stability. This includes combating terrorism, organized transnational crime, drug and weapon trafficking, irregular migration, human trafficking, as well as eliminating the consequences of natural and man-made disasters, which contributes to the achievement of the UN goals and principles.
The General Assembly encouraged the UN Secretary General to continue regular consultations with the CSTO Secretary General in the framework of bilateral contacts and various forums.
The UN and the CSTO intend to continue their cooperation for a coherent and comprehensive implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
In addition, the two organizations will explore opportunities for further enhancing interaction in the field of peacekeeping.
The General Assembly decided to include a sub-item on cooperation between the United Nations and the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the provisional agenda of its 81st session, as part of an extensive discussion on interaction with other regional organizations.
