Gennady Lepeshko: To Ignore Bioterrorism Threats Is to Sign our own Death Warrant
Gennady Lepeshko, Chairman of the Standing Commission on National Security of the House of Representatives of Belarus, spoke at the meeting of Chairmen of the Committees on International Affairs, Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States.
"In the context of chaotization and destabilization of the international situation, arms race and growth of military expenditures, as well as failure of the nuclear deterrence system, there is no prospect of establishing a constructive dialogue in the East European collective security region in the short term. The military and political situation will continue to be in crisis," Gennady Lepeshko noted.
The parliamentarian suggested a number of measures to counter bioterrorism and other types of criminal interference, including by developing model laws “On controlling foreign influence” and “On ensuring electoral sovereignty”.
He said that Belarus had already established protection centers for biological resources, which makes it possible to counter aggressive actions of terrorists.
"To ignore bioterrorism threats is to sign our own death warrant. The United States uses 'dual-purpose' research to create weapons, and this is already the beginning of a global catastrophe," Gennady Lepeshko emphasized.
He noted the importance of strengthening CSTO ties with the SCO and CIS to counter to terrorism and drug trafficking together.
