Igor Sergeyenko: We Will Preserve our Sovereignty and Choose our own Allies
Minsk hosted a meeting between observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.
During the meeting, Mr. Sergeyenko emphasized the importance of preserving the state's sovereignty and declared that Belarus would choose its allies on its own.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives thanked Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the CSTO PA and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, on whose instructions the observers from the parliaments of the CSTO states came to Minsk.
Igor Sergeyenko noted that the elections are taking place in an orderly way and with a high voter turnout. He expressed confidence that the Belarusian people realize the importance of their choice for the future of the state and support the policy of stable development.
“We will preserve our sovereignty and choose our own allies,” Mr. Sergeyenko declared, emphasizing that Belarus will continue to apply a multi-faceted foreign policy despite pressure from certain Western states. He also added that international observers play an important role in ensuring the transparency of the election process.
Victoria Abramchenko, Coordinator of the monitoring mission from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, summarized the interim results of monitoring, confirming the compliance of all electoral processes with the national legislation of the Republic of Belarus and international standards. She said that tomorrow, on the day of voting, the CSTO parliamentarians would work at polling stations in Minsk since their opening till the end of the tabulation of voting results.
