Kazakhstan held the 3rd Military Sports Games of the Armed Forces of the CIS states
Central Sports Club of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty hosted the 3rd Military Sports Games between friendly armies of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Council of Ministers of Defence.
According to the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the Games were organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the active assistance of the Sports Committee and the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Defence of the CIS member states.
Military sports competitions included more than 200 servicemen of the armed forces of seven Commonwealth states: Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan.
The competition programme included officers’ triathlon and army hand-to-hand combat, paramilitary cross-country, standard-issue shooting and kettlebell lifting, which is popular in the army.
A total of 25 sets of medals were awarded.
The team of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took the first place in the final medal standings with 20 medals (12 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze), the second place was taken by the team of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan (17 medals, including 6 gold), the team of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan came in third (21 medals, including 5 gold).
In addition to the competitions themselves, the Games programme was full of cultural events and memorable sightseeing trips.
After the Games, the heads of the national teams, athletes, coaches and judges in applied military sports praised the competitions that demonstrated the triumph of the sporting spirit, army friendship and loyalty to the ideals of fair play.
