Ivica Dačić: Serbia will not allow a revision of history
Ivica Dačić, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, addressed the plenary meeting of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
“Let me express our commitment to preserve the historical friendship and brotherhood, of which we should be proud,” said the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia as quoted by the press service of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
Ivica Dačić stressed that current excellent relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation are based on a stable, centuries-old foundation. “Russia has supported the struggle of the Serbian people for liberation and unification not only politically and militarily, but also in many other ways,” he said. Ivica Dačić also recalled the strong cultural and humanitarian ties between the two peoples.
“The Serbian people deeply respect the enormous sacrifices made by the Russian people and other peoples of the Soviet Union in the fight against Nazism,” Ivica Dačić said.
“We absolutely oppose any attempts to revise history, reduce the number of victims and belittle the contribution to the defeat of Nazism and fascism, as well as against the rehabilitation of the bearers of these ideologies today,” he stressed.
“The Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation are building a strategic partnership based on mutual trust and understanding,” said the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
At the same time, Ivica Dačić stressed that the relations should be further improved and raised to a higher level. “In Belgrade, as in Moscow, we are well aware of the challenges of the 21st century, and we know that we can and must overcome them only together,” he said.
“Today Serbia and Russia are much more than traditional historical friends and allies,” Ivica Dačić said and noted the extraordinary alignment of the two countries’ views on the world and on how this world can be made better. He stressed the commitment of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia to an order governed by international law.
