Belarus Calls for Strengthening the Role of CSTO Observer Missions
Natalia Kochanova, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, suggested establishing an international authority for the protection of electoral processes.
According to her, Western observer missions’ biased approach calls for a search for new forms of electoral protection.
“Perhaps it is time to think about establishing a special international authority for the protection of national electoral processes akin to the anti-fascist committee created after the Second World War. Both then and now we are talking about the same thing: equal right of all peoples to self-determination and independent choice of the national development path, while the undermining of the electoral sovereignty is nothing other than an element of terrorist dictatorship,” Ms Kochanova said.
The Speaker also called for strengthening the role of the CSTO PA and CIS observer missions, “which assess voting based on actual compliance with the adopted standards, without adjusting their reports to the political position of the decision-making centres.”
As you may recall, on December 5, 2022 in Moscow members of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly adopted Recommendations on Improving Legislation to Ensure Protection of Electoral Processes and Sovereignty in the CSTO Member States.
