Kassym-Jomart Tokayev urged to develop a truly working mechanism to ensure food security
In his speech at the 6th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted that it is necessary to create an effective mechanism for ensuring food security across CICA states. He drew attention to the fact that Asia produces two-thirds of the world’s agricultural products but continues to be vulnerable in this area.
“We need to develop unified approaches to assessing the compliance of important products with national standards and create ‘green channels’ between CICA member states for this category of goods,” MIR 24 media company quotes Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as saying.
According to Interfax, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan called promising the cooperation between CICA and the Islamic Organization for Food Security headquartered in Astana.
“Given the agricultural potential of our countries, we could take measures to provide countries in need with food and fertilizers,” said the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) member states should establish “green channels” to ensure food security; this is another initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which holds the 2022 CICA presidency.
