Markevich: CSTO PA Statement on Preventing Drug Use Among Children and Young People Adopted Without Changes
On April 20, an extraordinary joint meeting of the CSTO PA Standing Commissions discussed important issues relating to the activities of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
The meeting was presided over by Aleksandr Markevich, Chairman of the CSTO PA Standing Committee on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues, who presented a draft statement on preventing drug use among children and young people. A resolution on this agenda item was adopted without any additions or amendments.
“The meeting resulted in adoption of documents on the prevention of militarization of outer space and the prevention of drug use among children and young people. Representatives of the Member States’ parliaments supported combating drug use among children and young people and stated the need to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation on this issue. There was a lively discussion on the issue of introducing liability for propaganda of Nazi symbols and the preservation of joint historical heritage. It was also decided to continue joint work on the formation of model legislation on these issues,” Mr Markevich said.
Discussion participants included members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Commissions on Political Affairs and International Cooperation, on Defence and Security and on Socioeconomic and Legal Issues.
