Mikael Agasandyan is appointed as Russian plenipotentiary representative to the CSTO
Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, has signed a decree appointing Mikael Agasandyan, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative of Russia to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). According to TASS, the document was published on Tuesday on the official legal information portal.
“To appoint Mikael Agasandyan, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, as Permanent and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Russian Federation to the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” the document reads.
The decree enters into force on the date of its publication.
By another decree, Mr Putin relieved Andrei Shvedov, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of this post.
According to Sputnik news agency, Mikael Agasandian served in the Middle East and North Africa Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry from 2000 to 2003. In 2007, he joined the Department of International Organizations, the UN Security Council and General Assembly Division.
He started his diplomatic career in 1996. His first overseas assignment was to Tunisia where he worked in the Russian Embassy in 1996–2000 and 2003–2007.
Mr Agasandian is a graduate of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
