Drecun Thanked CSTO Parliamentarians for Taking Part in the Events Marking the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Belgrade
Serbian National Assembly invited parliamentarians of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to the capital of the Republic for the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from Nazi invaders. Milovan Drecun, Head of the Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the CSTO PA, expressed gratitude to the visiting colleagues and noted that the Soviet allies “laid the foundations of eternal friendship between nations.”
“I am very pleased that the delegates of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, invited by the National Assembly of the Republic, took part in the celebrations marking the liberation of Belgrade. We are very grateful to our Soviet friends who supported the Republic of Serbia in difficult times. The liberation of Belgrade is a triumph of courage and unity, the preservation of peace and freedom, and a proof that harmony and the struggle for freedom are boundless,” said Milovan Drecun.
He emphasized that it is the sacred duty of the descendants of the liberators to cherish the memory of the courageous fight against fascist evil and to counter attempts of distorting revision of historical facts. Only in this way will the descendants be worthy of the heroism and the sacrifice of their ancestors, he said.
As you may recall, on March 26, 2024, draft Recommendations on Developing Common Approaches of the CSTO Member States to Counter External Disruptive Attempts to Revise and Distort Historical Events and Results of the Great Patriotic War and Second World War were presented at the meeting of the CSTO PA Council’s Expert Advisory Board in St. Petersburg. CSTO parliamentarians noted the acute relevance and importance of such a document in today's world, where history becomes a subject of political manipulation.
