Serbian Foreign Minister notes the importance of CSTO PA observers’ participation in election monitoring
“We do not see ourselves in NATO and remember the alliance’s aggression against Serbia. Serbia remains neutral, but this does not limit our contacts, including with CSTO structures,” said Nikola Selaković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, in his meeting with CSTO PA’s international observers at the regular election of the President and early election of deputies to the National Assembly (parliament) of the Republic of Serbia.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia stressed, “We welcome the parliamentarians of your Organization as friends of our country.”
“It is important to stress the difference of this election. For the first time since 1999, we cannot hold the election in Kosovo,” regretted Nikola Selaković.
“This election takes place in the context of continued foreign pressure on Serbia. Serbia’s independent behaviour is irritating to those who try to impose their rules of conduct. Serbia’s political stability is important for the entire region. It is important to maintain peace and stability,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
“Serbia is changing for the better,” said Nikola Selaković.
In turn, on behalf of all the representatives of the CSTO PA participating in the international observation of the election in the Republic of Serbia, the coordinator of the CSTO PA international observation group expressed support to the Republic’s political course, noting the high consolidation of society in this matter.
“Let me express my confidence that our presence will help conduct, conclude the election process in full compliance with the electoral legislation of the Republic of Serbia. Today we had a meeting with the President of the Republican Election Commission, who ‘spelled out’ to us how we can be helpful. These several days, we will work so as to be useful to you and to be seen and heard by the entire international community,” said Vladimir Novikov.
In turn, Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, noting the complexity of Serbia’s position, emphasized that showing support to the friendly nation as one of the tasks of the CSTO PA international observers.
For his part, Chingiz Aidarbekov, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defence, Security and Migration of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted the calm atmosphere in Belgrade leading up to the election.
