Chairman of the Republican Election Commission of Serbia briefed CSTO PA observers on peculiarities of the campaign
International observers from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, led by their coordinator Vladimir Novikov, deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who are monitoring the preparation and conduct of the election of the President of the Republic of Serbia and the early election of deputies to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, met with Vladimir Dimitrijević, Chairman of the Republican Election Commission of the Republic of Serbia.
Vladimir Dimitrijević informed international observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly about the preparation for the elections and specifics of the current election campaign and answered the questions of the CSTO PA international observers.
In particular, the Chairman of the Republican Election Commission of Serbia said that this election had no early voting and no optical scan voting systems. Ballots are counted in 177 municipalities, after which they are forwarded to the Republic Election Commission which should announce the final election results within 96 hours.
Since the regular election of President of the Republic of Serbia and the early election of deputies to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia are combined, the ballots will be put into separate ballot boxes, and the ballot papers will be colour-coded differently as well: grey and white. A maximum of 50 observers will be allowed into a polling station.
As you may recall, international observers from the CSTO PA were invited by Ivica Dačić, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, to participate in monitoring the preparation and conduct of the election of the President of the Republic of Serbia and early election of deputies to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
The CSTO PA international observers represent the parliaments of the CSTO Member States: National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, Federation Council and State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As you may recall, on February 15, 2022, Aleksandar Vučić, President of the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia, the Law on the President of Serbia and at the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, dissolved the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia (Parliament) and set the early election for April 3.
On March 2, 2022, Ivica Dačić, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, signed a decree scheduling the regular presidential election for April 3, 2022.
On the day of presidential and early parliamentary elections in the Republic of Serbia, international observers from the CSTO PA will work at polling stations in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia, from the opening of polling stations until the end of the vote count.
As you may recall, since 2013, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia has been an observer to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
