Eurasian Security Discussed at the St. Petersburg Legal Forum
On June 26, the XII St. Petersburg International Legal Forum hosted a Special Meeting of the Expert Advisory Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on ‘The Security Umbrella of Eurasian Integration’
The discussion was moderated by Anatoly Vyborny, deputy Chairman of the Committee on Security and Corruption Control of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Council and Chairman of the CSTO PA Council's Expert Advisory Board, and Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
The participants discussed the system of today's challenges and threats to Eurasian security, issues of legal support for military, biological, information, digital and electoral security, as well as promising areas for the development of the CSTO model legislation and legal aspects of using digital technologies and artificial intelligence technologies to ensure security.
At the end of the meeting, the experts decided that today the CSTO's role in maintaining peace and stability in the Eurasian space has significantly increased, and CSTO states are interested in continuing to develop the Organization's Parliamentary Assembly as one of the most important mechanisms for improving the legal framework for the functioning of the collective security system.
As you may recall, model laws of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are international legal standards adapted to the conditions of the CSTO itself. Once adopted in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the model laws are offered to the CSTO Member States as models for national legislation.
