CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers discussed the state of international and regional security and its impact on CSTO States
The meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Collective Security Treaty Organization took place in Yerevan under the chairmanship of Ararat Mirzoyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, with the participation of Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs discussed the state of international and regional security and its impact on the security of the Member States of the Organization. The members of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs were briefed on the joint work conducted by the Secretariat and the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to improve the Organization’s crisis response mechanism in the current geopolitical circumstances.
“The need for the CSTO as a security donor will gradually increase and exceed the initially outlined framework of the Eurasian region,” news.am quotes Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenian Foreign Minister.
He said that the meeting conducted in closed format discussed regional security issues and their impact on the security of the CSTO Member States. The participants exchanged views on the situation in the world and the region and received information on improvement of crisis response mechanisms, work on non-agreed documents and implementation of the CSC decision.
The participants then signed three previously agreed documents: a draft decision of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs on the 2022–2024 plan of consultations on foreign policy, defence and security; a draft protocol decision on the time and venue of the next meeting; and a draft Statement of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs on International Security. The next meeting will also be held in Yerevan in the second half of the year, on the eve of the meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
