CSTO PA observers met with the President of the Electoral Commission of Armenia
CSTO PA observers met with Tigran Mukuchyan, President of the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Armenia, to discuss the election situation and preparedness of the polling stations for the voting.
Tigran Mukuchyan warmly thanked the CSTO PA observers for agreeing to take part in the international observation.
According to the CEC President, the preparations for the voting are on schedule, all the deadlines are being respected. The polling stations are ready for the voting at the early election to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia; CSTO PA international observers can visit them to confirm this. The CEC President answered observers’ questions.
For instance, Mukhtar Yerman, a CSTO PA observer, member of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation and Secretary of the Committee on International Affairs, Defence and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, asked about restrictions on minors’ participation in political actions or limitations of the election campaign in the Armenian legislation.
Sergei Kolbin, a CSTO PA observer, member of the CSTO PA Standing Commission on Defence and Security and a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, asked whether it will be too difficult for the elderly voters to handle 25 ballot papers at once.
Kanybek Imanaliev, coordinator of the CSTO PA observers, commended the great work done by the CEC of the Republic of Armenia to prepare for the early election in a short time, especially in the difficult situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Early parliamentary election in the Republic of Armenia will be held on June 20. Polling stations will open at 08:00 a.m.
There are 25 political entities participating in the early election: 21 parties and 4 blocs. At the polling station, voters will receive ballot papers corresponding to the number of political entities participating, choose one of them, put it into an envelope and drop it into the ballot box. Voters will not mark their ballot papers with a pen.
