On March 27, draft Recommendations for CSTO Member States on Elaborating General Principles of State Regulation of the Internet to Ensure National Security were presented at the meeting of the CSTO PA Permanent Commission on Defence and Security.
Parliamentarians and experts noted the importance of State control over the information space in order to prevent possible threats such as cyber attacks and cyber espionage.
The draft Recommendations envisage cooperation of the CSTO countries in regulating the Internet space, as well as exchange of experience and information on methods of defense against cyber threats.
"Given the dependence of modern society on information technologies, we are aware that the information disseminated on the Internet has a significant impact on the public and individual consciousness of the citizens of the CSTO Member States and on the stability of the social and political system of these states. Accordingly, the CSTO Member States cannot leave this area of social relations, sensitive for ensuring national security, without their attention," states the text of the document presented at the meeting by Mikhail Azarov, CSTO PA expert and associate professor of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics.
It is expected that this draft will be adopted by all CSTO Member States as a basis for further actions to ensure security in cyberspace.
