CSTO PA Address on the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War Is Published
On December 9, at the meeting in Moscow, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization adopted the Address to the Peoples of the Organization's Member States and Parliamentarians of the World in Connection with the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War and Anti-Hitler Coalition in the Second World War.
The Address emphasizes that the Second World War has become a tragedy for the humankind, and the Great Patriotic War has become the hardest test for the peoples of the multinational Soviet state, which made the main contribution to the achievement of the Great Victory. The parliamentarians noted that the history of these wars represent an unprecedented lesson that some often attempt to forget or distort.
The Assembly expressed its concern about ongoing attempts to rehabilitate the Nazis and their accomplices and condemned any actions aimed at justifying Nazi crimes.
"We believe that coordinated joint actions by the world's lawmakers will help to preserve the system of the most important moral values and compasses for present and future generations and to consolidate the international community in the face of the real threat of the revival of Nazism," reads the text of the Address published on the website of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Parliamentarians encouraged everyone to treat with respect monuments and memorials in honor of heroes.
The Assembly commended the United Nations General Assembly resolution on combating glorification of Nazism and expressed commitment to the goals of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
In conclusion, the parliamentarians called on the world community to join efforts in preventing the revival of Nazism and preserving the most important moral values for future generations.
