CSTO PA Executive Secretary spoke at the 1st International Forum Peoples of Russia
Positive interethnic relations are undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of Eurasian stability. And here, Russia plays a systemically important role, said the CSTO PA Executive Secretary.
Sergei Pospelov recalled that “today it is clearer than ever that Russia cannot be defeated by military means. That is why the attempts to divide Russia and its allies, to split Russia from within are on the rise. This includes, among other things, destabilizing the situation on the territory of our allies and neighbours. Big diasporas of the peoples of the CSTO States live in Russia permanently, and vice versa, there are Russians living in all CSTO States. Such centuries-old joint development is in many respects a unique example for the whole world. That is why to a great extent this is a forum of the peoples of the CSTO States.”
“Security today has gone beyond its traditional interpretation: today it does not only mean defence and fight against terrorism, but also digital and economic security, while issues of humanitarian nature, education and preservation of historical memory become increasingly important,” said the CSTO PA Executive Secretary.
The Parliamentary Assembly, whose work was praised by the President of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council, aims to approximate the laws of our countries.
“Legislation is where real integration begins: from the creation of the basic conditions for common approaches to many processes in the Organization’s States.
Sergei Pospelov recalled that one of the most important aspects of security and its legislative sphere is the fight against racial and national intolerance and xenophobia. “Opposing the revival of Nazism is one of the priorities of our work,” noted Mr Pospelov.
CSTO PA is the platform that drafts model laws that then become part of the national legislation.
“In total, 69 model laws, recommendations and other legal acts were submitted to the parliaments of the CSTO States for eventual implementation in the national legislation. Most of the documents resonate with the issues addressed by this forum,” said Sergei Pospelov.
