Meeting of the CSTO Council of Ministers of Defence was held remotely
A meeting of the Council of Ministers of Defence of the CSTO Member States was held remotely, BELTA reports with reference to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus.
BELTA reports that heads of the defence departments of the armed forces of the CSTO Member States, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas and Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Anatoly Sidorov took part in the meeting via videoconferencing.
Minister of Defence of the Republic of Tajikistan reported on CSTO’s military priorities during Tajikistan’s presidency in the Organization in 2021.
Participants of the meeting exchanged views on challenges and threats to military security in the regions of collective security.
Viktor Khrenin, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, reported on the situation in the East European region of collective security.
The meeting reviewed and approved the following documents:
– draft Agreement on Joint Material, Technical and Medical Support of the Troops (Collective Forces) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization;
– draft protocol on amendments to the Agreement on the CSTO Peacekeeping Activities of October 6, 2007;
– draft decision of the Collective Security Council On the Concept of an Integrated System Approach to Quality Assurance and Quality Control of Military Products Jointly Developed and Produced Under the Framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Throughout Their Life Cycle;
– draft decision of the Collective Security Council On Additional Measures to Improve the Collective Security Treaty Organization Member States’ System of Public Authorities Training.
After the meeting, Sergei Shoigu, Russian Minister of Defence, reported that the Combined Arms Academy of the Russian Armed Forces will become the base organization for training CSTO peacekeepers.
“We considered the training the personnel of peacekeeping units. To this end, we agreed to give the Combined Arms Academy of the Russian Armed Forces the status of a base training organization to train the personnel of the CSTO peacekeeping forces,” Interfax quotes the Russian Minister of Defence.
