The House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus has ratified the protocol on amendments to the CSTO Peacekeeping Agreement
At the plenary meeting of the eighth session, deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus have ratified the protocol on amendments to the agreement on peacekeeping activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of October 6, 2007, BelTA reports.
A draft law On Ratification of the Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement on Peacekeeping Activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of October 6, 2007 has been submitted to the House of Representatives by the Council of Ministers on March 4, 2022.
It was prepared to express Belarus’ consent to be bound by the Protocol on Amendments to the Agreement on Peacekeeping Activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of October 6, 2007, signed in Dushanbe on September 16, 2021 on the basis of Presidential Decree No. 151 of April 16, 2021 On the Draft International Agreement.
In accordance with articles 19 and 20 of the law No. 421-Z of July 23, 2008 On International Agreements of the Republic of Belarus, international agreements are ratified by the National Assembly in the form of a law.
The Protocol amends the Agreement on Peacekeeping Activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization of October 6, 2007, specifying the mechanism of participation (involvement) of the CSTO peacekeeping forces in peacekeeping operations conducted under the auspices of the UN. This will considerably expand their mandate in executing their mission to maintain international peace and security and will boost the image and authority of the CSTO in the international arena.
