CSTO States’ parliamentarians participate in the Collective Peacekeeping Forces’ exercise Unbreakable Brotherhood 2021
Representatives of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States take part in the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces’ exercise Unbreakable Brotherhood 2021 at the Kazan Higher Tank Command Red Banner School of the Order of Zhukov in the Republic of Tatarstan.
On November 11, representatives of the Coordination Council met with Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, head of the CSTO Joint Staff, and the exercise leadership, visited classrooms and inspected simulators at the Kazan Higher Tank Command Red Banner School of the Order of Zhukov and met with the school’s management.
In addition, representatives of the Coordination Council of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States were received by Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan.
According to the website of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, within the framework of the exercise, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces mainly concentrate on creating disengagement zones (buffer/demilitarized zones) and establishing control over the actions of the simulated conflicting sides in order to stimulate the conclusion of peace treaties. According to the exercise plan, by the decision of the Collective Security Council, the CSTO CPF conduct a peacekeeping operation in its area of responsibility, which is 32 kilometres deep and 98 kilometres wide.
In the buffer zone, the exercise participants equip 48 lookouts and 19 checkpoints and secure 11 important state facilities.
The peacekeeping forces practice actions at a checkpoint, tasks in a refugee camp, escorting humanitarian convoys, blockading a populated locality, storming a building occupied by “militants,” and liberating “hostages" and aiding victims.
Exercise participants include military contingents of the CSTO Member States – Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation and Republic of Tajikistan, military police units, internal affairs (police) units, national guards, as well as authorized bodies for prevention of and response to emergency situations and operative groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and Secretariat; the exercise is headed by Colonel General Aleksandr Lapin, commander of the troops of the Central Military District. Representatives of the OSCE and the International Committee of the Red Cross observed the exercise.
It is the first exercise of this kind to use armoured ambulances Linza.
Soldiers from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic learned the tactical and technical characteristics of the vehicle and evaluated its reliability while practicing evacuation of a wounded casualty.
On November 12, the exercise ends with a tactical episode of blockading a populated locality occupied by illegal armed groups, followed by the destruction of the enemy.
As you may recall, within the framework of the 2021–2025 CSTO PA Action Plan on Approximation and Harmonization of National Legislation of the CSTO Member States, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has developed the model law On Peacekeeping Activities and Peacekeeping Forces, which will be presented for consideration at the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly on November 29, 2021.
