International observers of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization continue to monitor the election process in the Republic of Belarus.
Alisher Erbayev, Coordinator of the CSTO PA monitoring group and member of the Committee on Law and Order, Combating Crime and Counteraction to Corruption of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, noted that the elections are open and legitimate.
"Everything is well organized, is held without violations, in compliance with the Electoral Code of Belarus and international norms. I would like to note the special features of the elections as well. For example, the legislation of the Republic of Belarus allows citizens of the Russian Federation, permanently residing in the country, to run for local Councils of Deputies," said Erbayev.
He also emphasized that a single voting day is a new format for Belarusians. Two elections are held in one period within one election campaign - to elect members of the House of Representatives of the Parliament and to elect all levels of local Councils of Deputies. During this campaign, almost 67 thousand people are involved in the work of election commissions on the territory of the country. The CSTO PA observer group includes representatives of the parliaments of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, as well as officials of the Assembly.
