CSTO Parliamentarians Met With the Head of the CEC of Belarus
On the eve of the elections, Igor Karpenko, Head of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus, met with the group of observers from the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly at the Belarusian CEC.
He said that a total of 294 international observers were accredited by the CEC of Belarus.
238 observers represent the CIS, including 44 sent by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member States, 12 – by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, 25 – by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, 4 – by the Standing Committee of the Union State.
In addition, 11 observers are accredited from the central electoral bodies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and 22 observers are from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Igor Karpenko also invited the observers to take part in the press events of the Central Election Commission. He reminded the participants that the final press conference is scheduled to start at 14:00 on February 26.
"We are ready to provide the observers with all the necessary information," Mr. Karpenko emphasized.
At the moment, the parliamentary elections in Belarus are monitored by a group of observers, consisting of representatives of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States and officials of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly.
