Parliamentarians promptly ratified decisions of the CSTO heads of state
The parliamentary function is one of the most important activities of our organization, noted Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, in his speech. “It was proved by the meeting of the heads of states at the end of last year where the issue of development of interparliamentary cooperation of the CSTO Member States was considered as a separate agenda item,” he said.
He also noted with regret that the international situation established in the CSTO area of activities does not give cause for optimism about potential positive changes in the global security sphere.
“For this purpose, the military build-up and demonstration of military activity near their borders are actively used, and so are the tools of ‘hybrid warfare’ and technologies of ‘colour revolution.’ The West has launched a large-scale disinformation campaign using fake news. As a result, the situation along virtually the entire border perimeter of the CSTO Member States remains tense. The processes in Afghanistan have a significant impact on the situation in the CSTO security region. We are closely monitoring this problem,” Mr Zas said.
The Secretary General said that one of the main tools used by the CSTO Member States is adoption of joint statements on topical issues, with nine such joint statements having been adopted since December 2020.
Mr Zas thanked the parliamentarians of the CSTO Member States for the prompt ratification of all the agreements signed by the heads of state.
Noting the importance of public diplomacy, he thanked the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly for close interaction and constructive work.
