Pashinyan: We must work to ensure that the CSTO is actively involved in ensuring the region’s security
Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, doubts that the Republic of Armenia will consider withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, shared this opinion on Tuesday during a live TV broadcast answering questions from the press, TASS reports.
“I do not think Armenia will consider withdrawing from the CSTO. This organization is also an important platform for our strategic relations with Russia. Using our presidency, we should work to ensure that CSTO is actively involved in ensuring the region’s security,” Mr Pashinyan said.
Head of the Government of the Republic of Armenia added that several facts should be “noted as a given.” “For example, the fact that certain CSTO Member States have signed a strategic document on a Turkic world vision with Azerbaijan and Turkey. Another fact is that Russia is a strategic partner of Armenia and yet not an enemy of Azerbaijan. That is why Russia is trying to solve problems in the region peacefully,” he said.
“We do not want Russia or any other member of the CSTO to be dragged into a conflict with Azerbaijan. We want our allies and partners to use political instruments to protect our internationally recognized rights,” Mr Pashinyan added.
