PARLACEN Chairperson Expressed Interest in CSTO PA Experience
On October 1, within the framework of the first Russia-Latin America International Parliamentary Conference, Amado Cerrud Acevedo, President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), met with Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
The representatives of international organizations discussed the prospects of developing new formats of cooperation.
PARLACEN President Amado Serruda Acevedo expressed interest in the legislative experience of the CSTO PA and readiness to develop dialogue in a multipolar world.
“The President of PARLACEN, as well as his colleagues, have expressed absolute interest in developing relations with security organizations that operate in the Eurasian space and, in particular, with the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. Taking into account the agreement that was signed last year between PARLACEN and the IPA CIS, the Central American Parliament has already seen the successful experience of such interaction, and they want to focus on security issues; it is very important for them to know of the model legislation that we are working on, and this legislation is of interest to them,” said Sergei Pospelov.
According to him, “the integration process that has emerged in the Eurasian space within the framework of multipolarity, meets with opposition, but the CSTO and its parliamentary dimension acting as a ‘security umbrella’ of the Eurasian integration processes serves as an example, making it naturally interesting for other integration associations, including those from other continents.”
Such cooperation, as Mr Pospelov stressed, will create new opportunities for the work of both the CSTO PA and parliamentarians from the Latin American region.
