Representatives of the CSTO PA Brought Flowers to the Piskaryovskoye Cemetery on the Day of the Complete Liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege
80 years have passed since the day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. On January 27, 1944, Soviet troops drove the Germans away from the besieged city. The terrible 872 days of bombing and starvation were over.
Today residents of St. Petersburg bring flowers to the memorial sites. Representatives of the parliaments of the CSTO member states together with the staff of the Secretariat of the CSTO PA brought a wreath and flowers to the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery.
As you may recall, St. Petersburg is the headquarters of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. In honor of the anniversary of the Leningrad victory the city on the Neva River will hold more than 200 events.
At 21:00 there will be artillery salute at the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The battery of 85-mm D-44 guns of the Mikhailovskaya Artillery Military Academy will fire 30 artillery salvos. Traditionally, each salvo will be named and dedicated to the heroes of the defence of Leningrad, Soviet military commanders, home front workers and residents of the besieged city.
