Presidents of Belarus and Russia Agree on a Joint Action Plan Against Sanctions
On June 9, President Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, met in Sochi.
The Belarusian leader suggested drafting an action plan against sanctions, which other CSTO and CIS countries can join in the future.
“I’ve already said publicly at a meeting of secretaries of security councils that we together with Russia would consider a plan of action in this situation. We shouldn’t even hope for the sanctions to be lifted. We need to focus on our own strength and on ourselves. If we come up with such a plan of action, our partners will definitely join, I am sure,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
As you may recall, the leaders of the two CSTO Member States held an informal meeting in Sochi residence Bocharov Ruchei as part of the Third Eurasian Congress. The day before, the Belarusian leader said at a meeting with the secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils that he plans to propose to the Russian President to develop a joint action plan to ensure the self-sufficiency of the Union State without relying on the West or the East. Furthermore, Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested drafting a plan for the internal development of the Russian–Belarusian domain.
