Presidents of Russia and Belarus agree on the deployment of a joint grouping of troops
Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin, Presidents of Belarus and Russian Federation, have agreed to deploy a joint regional force grouping, said Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus, at a meeting on security issues on October 10, BelTA reports.
“Due to the aggravating situation on the western borders of the Union State, we have agreed to deploy a regional grouping of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. All this is stated in our documents. If the threat level reaches the current level, as it is now, we start deploying the Union State grouping. The core of this grouping (I have always said so) is the army, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. I must inform you that the formation of this grouping has begun. It has been under way for two days, I think.
I have given my order to start forming the troops," the President of the Republic of Belarus said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko warned that one should not expect a large grouping of the Russian Armed Forces. “But it will be more than a thousand people.” The President of Belarus ordered to be “ready to accommodate these people in the near future and place them where they will be needed according to our plan, without overdoing it, without exacerbating the situation or fuelling tensions.”
