On December 6, Minsk hosted a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State with the participation of Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia.
The meeting was timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State. After signing the Security Concept, Belarus and Russia are reaching an unprecedented level of military cooperation, the Belarusian leader emphasized.
“This will prevent violation of the territorial integrity of Belarus and Russia, preserve sovereignty, independence, and most importantly, form guarantees of peaceful life for our citizens,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko during the meeting.
Vladimir Putin, in turn, said that Moscow and Minsk are also building up defence and security cooperation, which meets “the fundamental interests of our two states.”
He stressed that a unified air defence system is now successfully functioning, a joint regional group of troops has been created, and the military doctrine has been updated.
