Recommendations on legislative provision of biosafety in the CSTO countries were adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow
Today, December 19, CSTO parliamentarians agreed on actions to protect against bioweapons.
The meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow adopted the Recommendations on Regulation of Biosecurity of CSTO Member States.
“Ensuring biological security is one of the principal components of the general security system ensuring stable development of states,” reads the text of the Recommendations, published today on the official website of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
Parliamentarians from all CSTO Member States agreed that at the regional level it is necessary to form unified prevention and response systems by harmonizing approaches to laboratory diagnostics, sanitary and quarantine control, veterinary and phytosanitary control, elimination of outbreaks of dangerous infections and specialist training. The formation of such systems, experts believe, will ensure collective biological security at the regional level.
The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly recommended to continue the implementation of the initiative mentioned in the Statement of the CSTO PA on the Inadmissibility of the Development of Biological (Bacteriological) and Toxin Weapons of December 5, 2022. The initiative provides for the establishment of the International Biological Security Agency on the basis of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction of April 10, 1972.
