Russian Artillery Units Undergo Exercises in the Mountains of Tajikistan
2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled artillery units of Russia's 201st military base have conducted exercises to destroy a simulated illegal armed group at the Sambuli mountain training ground in Tajikistan, the Russian Ministry of Defence reported.
During the training, copter UAVs detected the location of a simulated illegal armed group and its firing positions. In order to prevent further advancement of the enemy deep into their area of responsibility, the 122-mm howitzer self-propelled artillery units 2S1 Gvozdika took up firing positions and fired at the simulated enemy.
Artillery fire on the area of the enemy's concentration was conducted continuously with increasing intensity and at varying depths, which allowed the units to suppress the main forces of the enemy and limit their retreating maneuver. At the end of the attack, motorized rifle units under the cover of BMP-2 infantry combat vehicles mopped up the area from remaining forces and manpower of the simulated enemy.
As you may recall, the 201st military base in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility outside its borders, located in Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It consists of motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defence, NBC protection and communications units.
