Russian Military Held a Special Exercise in the Mountains of Tajikistan
Soldiers of reconnaissance units of the Russian military base in Tajikistan conducted a special exercise on the mountain training range Lyaur where they practiced destroying a simulated illegal armed group (IAG).
The training used simulation tools, smoke bombs, smoke-puff charges and blank munitions to create a realistic combat environment.
According to the website of the Russian Defence Ministry, the military practised position finding and assessed the radar situation using reconnaissance equipment Fara and Sobolyatnik. After detecting assets and troops of a simulated enemy, reconnaissance teams stealthily penetrated the rear of the "enemy", where they ambushed a column of weaponized vehicles. Then the reconnaissance personnel conducted an offensive involving live fire of small arms and the weapon system of BTR-80 armoured personnel carriers, and, as a result, destroyed the simulated IAG.
For your reference: the Fara reconnaissance system is a family of Russian portable continuous-wave radars designed to direct mounted weaponry. The Sobolyatnik system is capable of detecting moving and stationary targets as far away as 30 km, while determining their characteristics and distinguishing between personnel and equipment. Sobolyatnik is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 20 different objects.
As you may recall, the 201st military base in Tajikistan is Russia’s largest military facility outside its borders. It is located in two cities, Dushanbe and Bokhtar. According to an agreement signed in 2012, the formation will remain in Tajikistan until 2042.
