Rustam Shokhmurod: Practical Positioning of the CSTO Is a Powerful Factor in Ensuring Stability
Commenting on the September exercises of the CSTO in Kyrgyzstan, Rustam Shokhmurod, Chairman of the Coordination Meeting and Chairman of the Committee on Law and Order, Defence and Security of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, noted that the practical positioning of the Organization is a powerful factor in ensuring stability in all CSTO Member States.
“Over the years of its existence, the CSTO has taken an important place among international and regional organizations, becoming one of the factors maintaining regional security. However, there is one important point I would like to note. We often treat the CSTO as a structure that is supposedly aimed at solving issues in a military way, but, in fact, it is often peaceful coexistence that we are discussing. Even despite its statutory goals, the Organization still pursues peacekeeping goals. The CSTO consistently advocates for the settlement of conflicts exclusively by peaceful means within the framework of internationally recognized negotiation formats,” Rustam Shokhmurod emphasized.
As you may recall, on September 11, at the Edelweiss training ground in Kyrgyzstan, participants of the Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees on Defence and Security of the CSTO Parliaments monitored the active phase of the Vzaimodeistvie–2024 CSTO exercises in Balykchy. The Organization's parliamentarians highly rated the exercises.
