Today the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan turns 30
30 years ago, on July 13, 1992, the National Security Committee (NSC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan was established by the decree of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. On this day begins the history of the Kazakhstani NSC, and every year this date is celebrated as a professional holiday, Kazinform reports.
“The NSC is an integral part of the system that ensures national security and sovereignty. National security agencies conduct intelligence and counterintelligence activities, fact-finding and surveillance operations; they protect state secrets, prevent cyberattacks, secure and defend state borders and fight terrorism,” the report says.
The capabilities of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee guarantee the republic’s protection from external enemies, said Yermek Sagimbayev, NSC Chairman, in a July 13 documentary celebrating the agency’s 30th birthday.
“As of today, the NSC is able to provide reliable protection from covert actions of an external enemy and ensure the steadfastness of Kazakhstan’s constitutional foundations,” said Yermek Sagimbayev. The world is changing rapidly, and with it, so is the republic, he said. “In the new Kazakhstan, we need a new attitude towards many fundamental things, including national security agencies,” the NSC Chairman said. He also stressed that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has great confidence in the Committee, which is entrusted with an important mission of ensuring national security.
