Today the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations Celebrates Its 31st Birthday
In Almaty on March 27 1992, chairmen of the parliaments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan signed the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Azerbaijan and Moldova later joined them.
The IPA is headquartered at the Tauride Palace in St Petersburg, which has hosted around 400 international academic and representative events attended by more than 7,000 state, public and political figures.
Since its establishment, the IPA CIS adopted more than 650 model normative legal acts, recommendations and other documents whose norms have since been introduced in the national legislations of different states.
In 31 years of its existence, the Assembly has become one of the most effective and authoritative international cooperation organizations.
The IPA CIS secretariat and the CSTO PA work in a single organizational structure and participate in each other's events on a regular basis.
