CSTO PA Secretariat and CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre cooperate in improving the legal framework for countering terrorism
Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary and head of the Secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, met in Moscow with Colonel General Yevgeny Sysoyev, head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre, representative of the Council of Heads of National Security Enforcement Agencies and Special Services of the CIS Member Nations.
They discussed intensifying interaction between the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre and the CSTO PA. According to the CSTO PA Executive Secretary, “the CIS ATC fulfils an important mission in coordinating joint actions of the CIS Member Nations and security agencies in the fight against international terrorism and training of counter-terrorist forces and preparing assets according to a common methodology. The Centre is involved in the formation of a regulatory framework for inter-state cooperation in combating terrorism.”
Sergei Pospelov said, “Due largely to the CIS ATC’s efforts, not only the special services of the member states, the security agencies of the CIS, but also the supreme legislative bodies of the CSTO Member States can coordinate their efforts in developing legislation on combating international terrorism.”
As you may recall, the CIS Anti-Terrorism Centre and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly are partners based on the Memorandum on Interaction and Cooperation between the CIS ATC and the CSTO PA signed in 2015, while representatives of the CIS ATC actively work in the Expert Advisory Board under the CSTO PA Council, contributing to improving the Organization’s model legislation.
