Echelon 2020, special exercises of the logistics function of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces), will take place in Russia
In accordance with the Regulations on the Procedure for the Preparation and Conduct of Joint Exercises in the CSTO Format, approved by a decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council of November 28, 2019, special exercises of the logistics function of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) Echelon 2020 will be held in Russia on the Kapustin Yar proving ground.
According to the press service of the Joint Staff of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the CSTO Crisis Response Centre held remote staff talks on July 7–8 regarding the organization and conduct of the special exercise involving the logistics function of the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) Echelon 2020.
Representatives of the defence agencies of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan took part in the staff talks held under the general supervision of Lieutenant General Hasan Kaloyev, first deputy chief of the CSTO Joint Staff.
The participants of the staff talks reviewed and discussed the duration and content of the exercise’s stages, its geography and issues of organization of comprehensive support. The preliminary composition of the leadership of the exercise, task forces and participating national contingents of the CSTO Member States have been agreed upon.
The exercises are planned to be held in the Russian Federation, on the Kapustin Yar proving ground. Deputy Commander of the Troops of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces responsible for logistics has been assigned to lead the exercises.
The purpose of the exercises is to practice the support function of the CSTO CRDF actions.
In the future, the military contingents and special units of the CSTO CRDF will hold a joint training operation to localize an armed conflict near border.
