On the eve of the day of the end of the Second World War in Europe and the victory of the allied forces over Nazism, CSTO PA Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin signed the Resolution of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
In their Address, the Assembly parliamentarians urged their European counterparts to take legislative measures to counter the revival and promotion of Nazism and its manifestations in modern Europe.
The Address also emphasized the need to protect the historical truth about the Second World War, to stop attempts to revise its results and to prevent the diminishing of the decisive role the peoples of the Soviet Union in the Victory.
“Over one million of our warriors gave up their lives to free the countries of Europe from Nazi yoke. Numerous war graves, memorials, monuments and steles on the territory of modern Europe’s states preserve the memory of the example of utmost heroism and self-sacrifice of representatives of all our peoples regardless of their nationality, citizenship and religion. Diminishing the importance of their heroic deed is unacceptable,” the Address reads.
The CSTO PA calls for legislative measures to prevent the desecration of graves of the fighters against Nazism and of war graves, acts vandalism against monuments to Soviet liberator soldiers, persecution of war veterans.
It is also proposed to take measures to prevent any attempts to justify the Nazis and their accomplices who committed most heinous crimes during the Second World War, the actions of their followers, and the denial or misinterpretation of the decisions of the International Military Tribunal to prosecute and punish the main war criminals of the European Axis countries.
The address of the parliaments of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Member States has been sent to the parliaments of the Council of Europe Member States.
