Stanislav Zas: We are taking all necessary measures to strengthen peace and stability in the CSTO States
“The fundamental position of the CSTO remains unchanged: we are convinced of the need for a political settlement of all existing conflicts and call upon all forces deciding the state of international security. At the same time, we take all necessary measures to strengthen peace and stability in the Member States of the Organization and are ready to protect their interests,” Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, said in a comment to the press in Yerevan about the results of the meeting of the CSTO Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils.
The CSTO Secretary General said that the meeting conducted a detailed analysis of the military and political situation in the world and the situation in the Organization’s area of responsibility, as well as in the adjacent regions.
“Today we can regretfully admit the crisis of the world security system as such. The arrangements that have existed for decades are in fact no longer functioning and the level of mistrust between a number of leading players has reached a critical point. At the same time, regional challenges and threats have not only retained their severity, but also, due to the growing global uncertainty, have a tendency to become more acute,” stressed Stanislav Zas.
The CSTO Secretary General said, “We have to acknowledge the growth of threats to the security of our states in several areas at once.”
According to Stanislav Zas, one of the most effective tools to ensure security of the Member States and counteract challenges and threats is capacity building of collective security forces and assets, as well as organization of close interaction between special services and law-enforcement bodies in conducting preventive activities.
The CSTO Secretary General recalled that during the last three years the CSTO has been conducting a special preventive operation Nayemnik (“Mercenary”) aimed to curb the recruitment of citizens of the CSTO States and block their entry/exit channels to participate in terrorist activities as well as neutralizing the resource base of international terrorist organizations in the CSTO area.
“In the first half of this year the CSTO special operation Nayemnik was actively being transformed into a permanent regional anti-terrorist operation. All the states supported this proposal and today a relevant decision on this issue has been signed,” said Stanislav Zas.
“For years we have been building capacity and experience in combating drug trafficking, illegal migration and the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes. Special operations Kanal (“Channel”), Nelegal (“Illegal person”) and Proksi prove their effectiveness and efficiency. Over the years, our operations have been recognized as best practices by experts, including international ones,” Stanislav Zas said.
