Stanislav Zas: Kazakhstan operation has shown that the CSTO peacekeeping potential is really working
Speaking at a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, thanked heads of Member States for the prompt adoption of a draft decision prepared by the CSTO Secretariat on measures to normalize the situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, “which allowed to begin deploying troops and contingents to the Republic of Kazakhstan on the very same day.”
According to the CSTO Secretary General, peacekeeping contingents have been deployed within four days, Russian Airspace Force’s aircraft have made more than 108 flights, Collective Peacekeeping Forces’ contingents have been deployed to the cities of Nur-Sultan, Almaty and the Almaty Region. Command posts have been set up based on the Military Institute of the Ground Forces in Almaty.
“In accordance with the operation plan agreed with Kazakhstan, the Collective Peacekeeping Forces have begun carrying out tasks to enhance the security and defence of important military and state facilities and to create conditions for the stabilization of the situation in areas of responsibility,” said the CSTO Secretary General.
Addressing heads of the CSTO Member States, Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, said, “As of today, all necessary measures have been taken to implement your decision to deploy a CSTO peacekeeping operation.”
“Yesterday I spoke with Colonel General Serdyukov, Commander of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces. According to his report, there are no issues requiring resolution at the level of the heads of state,” said the CSTO Secretary General.
“Certainly, we will calmly analyse everything a bit later, draw the necessary lessons and [make] conclusions. But we can already draw one, the most important, conclusion: the peacekeeping potential and the mechanism of its use that has been created in our Organization really works and is capable of fulfilling the set tasks,” said the Secretary General.
