Stanislav Zas informed Russian parliamentarians about CSTO’s work
At a session of the Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, informed Russian parliamentarians on the situation in the Eastern European and Central Asian regions of the CSTO responsibility, highlighted the main threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan and emphasized the need for assistance for the Republic of Tajikistan to contain it.
Focusing separately on the work of the CSTO peacekeeping contingent in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the CSTO Secretary General characterized their work on normalizing the situation in the Republic of Kazakhstan as decisive, pointing out the existing threats to the security of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the CSTO as a whole.
Participants of the meeting exchanged views on the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and its parliamentary component, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, noting the extensive work done by the Assembly to establish a legislative framework for peacekeeping cooperation within the CSTO.
