Stanislav Zas: “We have enough forces and assets to respond to the possible challenges”
Stanislav Zas, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, believes that the Organization has enough resources to meet the existing challenges, so there is no urgent need for security capacity-building, Interfax reports, citing an interview of CSTO Secretary General to Belarus 1 TV channel.
“As for NATO’s enlargement and whether or not we need to build our security capacity, of course we regard this enlargement as a prerequisite for the tensions in and militarization of the region. It is not conductive to stronger security, including the security of NATO member states. Do we need to strengthen our capabilities? We have enough forces and assets to respond to the possible challenges that will manifest themselves in this context.”
The CSTO Secretary General noted in an interview that “the CSTO draws a red line which cannot be crossed. This is the deterrent factor of our Organization. There are some boundaries in the information, political and economic confrontation that must not be crossed. Because it entails military threats or the very existence of the states,” stressed Stanislav Zas.
According to him, it is important for the CSTO Member States to pool their analytical capabilities. “It is necessary to have precise assessments of the real threats and the emerging situation in order to be able to respond adequately,” noted Stanislav Zas.
The CSTO Secretary General stressed that the CSTO Member States have a consolidated position on many issues, but not on all, “and we should not avoid discussions on this issue, we should look for answers that would suit everyone.”
