Taalatbek Masadykov: International Terrorism Shifts its Focus to CSTO Countries
In an interview with Sputnik Radio Kyrgyzstan, Taalatbek Masadykov, Special Representative of the CSTO Secretary General for Peacekeeping, warned everyone about the growing threat of international terrorism to CSTO Member States.
Mr. Masadykov noted that the threat of terrorism to CSTO countries has increased significantly. He stressed that the focus of international terrorism is gradually shifting to the Organization's countries because of global changes and the desire of some countries to impose their values on others by any means.
"International terrorism is slowly shifting its focus to the CSTO countries. This is understandable: the world is changing, global confrontation is underway, certain countries desire to impose their way of thinking and life on other countries, and this process is very painful. I am also referring to the unprecedentedly ruthless terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall, which resulted in many deaths, including women and children," Taalatbek Masadykov pointed out.
The CSTO deputy Secretary General emphasized that the threats of international terrorism have also increased in Central Asia.
"We have all seen what is happening in the Middle East. It can happen here any minute, especially since we notice the increased activity of radicals in our region. I have been talking about this for a long time. Several officials and experts, not only in the Kyrgyz Republic, but also in other countries, disagreed with me, saying that this problem is artificially inflated and that there is no reason for great concern. But life has shown that there is, and today terrorist threats and challenges are close to our home, the CSTO countries and other neighbors. Therefore, we need to be very, very vigilant," Taalatbek Masadykov concluded.
The CSTO countries continue their joint fight against terrorism. The CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has developed and adopted legislative acts on the approximation and harmonization of the CSTO Member States’ national legislation in the area of countering terrorism and extremism, including at the fuel and energy complex facilities. And on March 26, 2024, CSTO parliamentarians issued a Statement in connection with the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall condemning the act of a ruthless and cynical terrorist attack.
