Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, named several tasks that Central Asia faces at a new stage of development, including security issues. The President's article "Renaissance of Central Asia: Towards Sustainable Development and Prosperity" was published in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper on August 8.
To Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the main task and key condition for long-term development and progress lies in preserving peace and stability, not only in Central Asia, but also in neighboring regions.
"In the context of the persisting complex military and political situation along the perimeter of Central Asia, there is a need for cooperation in the field of defense policy and security. The creation of a regional security architecture is of particular relevance," said the President of Kazakhstan.
He noted that the processes of rapprochement aimed at joining efforts to ensure long-term security and prosperity of the region "have become consistent and irreversible".
By strengthening their status of peace-loving states, the "Central Asians", as he put it, actively promote their ideas and projects in multilateral structures and become founders of such successful and influential organizations as the CIS, CSTO, SCO, EAEU and others.
"There is no doubt that the common historical past, centuries-old traditions of friendship and good-neighborliness will continue to serve as an unwavering basis for the rapprochement of our fraternal peoples," the Kazakh leader emphasized.
Among the key priorities for the states of the region, the President mentioned the formation of an indivisible security space in Central Asia, the search for comprehensive approaches to addressing the key issues in the fight against traditional and new threats, the development of response and prevention measures, as well as active cooperation with the UN and other international and regional organizations in the field of security.
As you may recall, in 2024, the Collective Security Treaty Organization is chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan. On June 3, Almaty hosted the meeting of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, discussing harmonization of legislation and measures to counter challenges and threats to the security of the CSTO Member States.
