Tvrdišić: Serbia is interested in participating in CSTO PA election observation missions
Radovan Tvrdišić, deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia: “The opportunity to participate in the meeting of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization gives me great pleasure.”
Radovan Tvrdišić welcomed the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council on behalf of Mr Ivica Dačić, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Milovan Drecun, head of the delegation of the National Assembly to the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, all deputies and on his own behalf.
“I am glad that despite difficult international relations we can once again report on concrete results and further development of our cooperation, which has been going since 2013, when the Republic of Serbia was granted observer status in the CSTO,” stressed Radovan Tvrdišić.
He reminded that on January 28 this year the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia passed a law confirming the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Russian Federation on Cooperation in Combating Terrorism.
“Signed on June 18, 2020, the agreement represents the result of an earnest desire of the two states to strengthen cooperation in the field of counterterrorism,” he noted, stressing that this was the first agreement of its kind adopted by the National Assembly in the current convocation.
Mr Radovan Tvrdišić mentioned several joint counter-terrorism exercises of the special forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Serbia.
“These results are, above all, the fruit of mutual respect and principles of our cooperation, which is based on partnership, equality, trust and understanding of the Serbian position of military neutrality,” he emphasized.
Radovan Tvrdišić expressed interest in the work of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s observation missions during the elections in the CSTO Member States, noting that the Serbian National Assembly understands the importance of this process, sees the development of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly’s observation function and is interested in cooperation and participation.
