The intention of Vyacheslav Volodin, Russian State Duma Speaker, to participate in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly session in Yerevan testifies to the importance of the organization, Arman Abovyan, a deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, told RIA Novosti on Friday.
Earlier, the State Duma press service informed that Mr Volodin will pay a working visit to Armenia on November 4–5 to participate in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly events. “Mr Volodin’s visit indicates the perceived importance of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. I can definitely say that the organization is not a mere abstract concept but a living, breathing organism,” said Abovyan, who is a member of Armenia’s delegation to the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.
According to him, Armenian MPs are in constant contact with their counterparts from the CSTO countries and there are no issues that the states cannot discuss, the CSTO being a key element of Armenia’s security. “Let us not forget that we have come a very long way with those countries, we share our history, our vision is very similar,” the deputy noted.
He added that ensuring closer relations within the framework of the CSTO is important for Armenia, and the Parliamentary Assembly is the body that is called upon to regulate and harmonize the legislation of the Member States.
