CSTO Member States, like elsewhere in the world, celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War
The peoples of the Soviet Union who made a crucial contribution to the Victory, put more than 27 million lives on its altar. Hundreds of thousands of our warriors gave up their lives liberating the countries of Europe from Nazi yoke.
In his speech at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the CSTO Collective Security Council and President of the Russian Federation, said: “Our veterans fought for life – against death. And we will always look up to them in their unity and steadfastness.
We are united by a common memory and common hopes, our common aspirations, our responsibility for the present and future.
We know and strongly believe that we are invincible – when we are together.”
In his Victory Day congratulations, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, said: “We are all eternally indebted to the participants in the Great Patriotic War and homefront workers. Their feat is an example for all of us.”
Sergei Pospelov, Executive Secretary of the CSTO PA, wrote in his congratulations: “Our duty is to honour the feat of all those who heroically fought against fascism on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, worked on the home front and restored peaceful life in the post-war years. We must immortalize their names, preserve the truth about the heroism and self-sacrifice of millions of people, prevent falsification and distortion of history.”
Earlier, on the eve of Victory Day, speakers of the parliaments of the CSTO Member States adopted an address to the parliaments of the Council of Europe Member States on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in the Second World War.
In the Address, the Assembly parliamentarians called on their European counterparts to take measures at the legislative level to counteract the revival and promotion of Nazism and its manifestations in modern Europe.
“Over one million of our warriors gave up their lives to free the countries of Europe from the Nazi yoke.
Numerous war graves, memorials, monuments, steles and obelisks in modern Europe’s states preserve the memory of the example of utmost heroism and self-sacrifice of representatives of all our peoples regardless of their nationality, citizenship and religion. Diminishing the importance of their heroic deed is unacceptable,” says the Address.
On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory, we are using the CSTO PA platforms to tell you about the heroes of the Great Patriotic War from the former republics of the Soviet Union, and now the CSTO Member States.
We remember with pride!
