CSTO sees potential for developing cooperation with SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure
The CSTO Secretary General addressed the high-level conference on international and regional cooperation on border security and counter-terrorism in Dushanbe.
In his speech, Stanislav Zas, CSTO Secretary General, noted that the CSTO actively supports international initiatives to strengthen border security to combat terrorism by stemming the flow of foreign terrorist fighters across borders.
“We are satisfied with the development of our cooperation in this area with the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre and the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia within the Border Security and Management Programme and the project Towards a Joint Action Plan implemented in line with the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in Central Asia,” the CSTO Secretary General said.
According to Stanislav Zas, by expanding interaction and information exchange, the CSTO sees a potential for the development of cooperation between the Organization and the SCO Regional Antiterrorist Structure, the Anti-Terrorism Centre of the CIS Member States and the Council of Commanders-in-Chief of National Border Guard in order to collectively counter terrorist threats in Central Asia.
Stanislav Zas stressed that consolidation of efforts to ensure collective security is a paramount task for the CSTO.
“We commend the adoption of the Dushanbe Declaration on Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists,” Stanislav Zas concluded in his statement.
